PBRNs As Agents for Primary Care Practice Healing and Innovation
Alex Krist, MD, MPH
The recent report from the National Academies of Science Engineering and Medicine outlined a roadmap for the nation to implement high quality primary care. The report identified primary care as the only part of the healthcare system that leads to longer lives and more health equity. Yet stress in primary care practices is at an all-time high and changes to healthcare delivery threaten to undermine the identity and value of primary care. PBRNs can serve as both healers to help practices address daily stresses and change agents to address the systems issues undermining primary care. Understanding these concepts can be used to build a value proposition and set a research agenda for PBRNs.
